Piano Arrangement of The Sleeping Beauty

By Etta | May 16, 2007

Mom used to bring me to see ballet shows when I was a child.

Although I’ve always enjoyed the graceful movements of the dancers, I’ve found it a bit way over the top when an orchestra was playing live in the theater.

As you can tell, I am not a huge fan of big orchestra. Tchaikovsky: Piano Concertos, Symphony Pathetique, The Seasons, & Piano Pieces; Mikhail Pletnev/Russian National Orchestra (4 CD's)

And because of my love for piano music, I’d always try to locate a piano transcription of a symphony (whenever possible) rather than investing my money on an orchestral version.

So, when I spotted this 4-CD set by Mikail Pletnev and Russian National Orchestra quite a while back, I hesitated to make my purchase at the very beginning.

However, I finally decided to give the set a try because

  1. it had (and still has) a very affordable price tag; and
  2. I wanted to keep a copy of the piano arrangement of The Sleeping Beauty (Tchaikovsky) by the pianist Mikhail Pletnev.

This piano arrangement was recorded back in 1989.

Pletnev has selected a few of the finest dances from the ballet music of The Sleeping Beauty and turned them into a beautiful solo piano performance.

You may sample the music on Amazon.com.

If you use the Amazon.com Music Sampler, click onto any tracks displayed for Disc 4.

For your reference, I believe the tracks are numbered from 21 to 31 under the Amazon.com Music Sampler.

I hope you’ll enjoy the music as much as I do. Happy Listening!
