Angele Dubeau - Solo

By Etta | Jun 12, 2007

As I wasn’t very familiar with Canadian violinists, I was a bit hesitant to buy the CD when I first discovered Angele Dubeau - Solo.Angele Dubeau Solo

But since I was looking for a violin solo CD, I decided to give this one a try.

I must say I am amazed by the superb techniques of Angele Dubeau.

In this CD, Dubeau has selected music from the Baroque period as well as from the more contemporary folk, jazz and tango:

  • Pietro Antonio Locatelli (1695 - 1764): Caprice No. 9 in C major
  • George Enescu (1881 - 1955): Prelude Op. 9, No. 1;
  • Astor Piazzolla (1921 - 1992): Etude-Tango No. 1, 3, and 4;
  • Alan Ridout ( 1934 - ): Ferdinand le taureau/Ferdinand the Bull;
  • Srul Irving Glick (1934 - 2002): Serenade & dance;
  • Dave Brubeck (1920 - ): Bourree;
  • Bartolomeo Campagnoli (1751- 1827): Divertimento Op. 18, No. 7

Out of the entire CD, I find the interpretation of Ferdinand the Bull the most interesting and expressive. Not only is the music fun to listen, the narration is very whimsical.
